RATCH Halts 12MW Wind Farm in Australia after Its Turbine Catches Fire!

It has not been long since the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Hydroelectric Power Project crashed and flooded villages in Laos. Yesterday, the turbine in one of its wind farm caught fire, which led to a halt in transmitting electricity.


Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited (RATCH) has reported that there was a fire outbreak in wind turbine generator #1 at Windy Hill Farm, Queensland, Australia. The Windy Hill Farm is owned by Windy Hill Wind Farm Public Proprietary Company Limited (WHWF), an indirect subsidiary of RATCH through wholly owned subsidiaries including RATCH-Australia Corporation Proprietary Company Limited.

The fire occurred on November 13, 2018 at around 3:00 p.m. local time and the fire was ceased at approximately 5:00 p.m. local time of the same day. At present, the Windy Hill Farm has temporarily stopped transmitting electricity. Currently, WHWF and its operations and maintenance contractor are assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire. None of the other turbines were damaged by the fire.

 

The Windy Hill Farm has installed capacity of 12 MW with 20x600kW turbine. It is located on the Atherton Tablelands in the state of Queensland Australia.
