Constitutional Court Considers Dissolving Thai Raksa Chart

ธhe Constitutional Court of Thailand convened to consider accepting the Election Commission’s petition for the dissolution of Thai Raksa Chart Party.

Today, the Constitutional Court of Thailand convened to consider accepting the Election Commission’s petition for the dissolution of Thai Raksa Chart Party. The Constitutional Court came out with a unanimous decision to accept the EC’s petition for the dissolution.

After convening for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, the Constitutional Court of Thailand decided to accept the petition by the EC which was submitted yesterday. Now, the Thai Raksa Chart Party has seven days to file their statement to resolve the allegations by the EC.

The legal blitzkrieg that Thai Raksa Chart is facing has been brought about partly by their own gambit of nominating a Royal member as their candidate for Prime Minister in the upcoming elections in March. Princess Ubolratana who relinquished her Royal title back in the 70s had publicly accepted the parties nomination with optimism for progressing the country via democratic mechanism, however, hours later her younger brother the King shutdowned the possibility with a televised Royal decree stating that Princess Ubolratana was still a member of the Royal family making it inappropriate for her to assume political candidacy.

The Constitutional Court will convene again on the matter latter this month on the 27th.
