Still Hopeful on the Trade Talks?

The talks would continue in Beijing, according to Liu, but there is still no schedule for the meeting date as of now.

On the last day of trade talks in Washington, the Chinese VP Liu He and chief negotiator in the talks stated that “negotiations have not broken down.” Still, the U.S. maintain to levy 25% of Chinese imports worth $200 billion.

“I think small setbacks are normal and inevitable during the negotiations of both countries. Looking forward, we are still cautiously optimistic,” Liu said.

“Right now, both sides have reached mutual understanding in many things, but frankly speaking, there are also differences. We think these differences are significant issues of principle. We absolutely cannot make concessions on such issues of principle.”

Trump said earlier that there was “nothing wrong with taking in $100 billion a year”. While being confident about the pressure dumping on China, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said on Friday that President Donald Trump had asked him to create a plan to help American farmers cope with the heavy impact of the U.S.-China trade war on agriculture.

The talks would continue in Beijing, according to Liu, but there is still no schedule for the meeting date as of now.
