Asian Stocks Trade Lower as U.S.-China Tariffs Take Effect, Trump Affirms Talks in Sep.

Asian stocks traded mostly lower as the U.S.-China tariffs take effect while Trump affirmed trade talks to continue in September.


Shares in Asian stock markets traded mostly lower on Monday, September 2, 2019, after the new U.S. tariffs worth $112 billion of Chinese imports came into effect on Sunday while the Chinese also planned a retaliation with an increase of tariffs worth $75 billion on U.S. goods.

As of 9:20 local time in Thailand, NIKKEI slipped 0.30%, HSI skidded 0.39%, ASX 200 slid 0.14%, KOSPI edged 0.09% lower while SSEC rose 0.78% in hopes of better private survey on Chinese manufacturing sector to be announced this morning.

SET closed on August 30, 2019, at 1,654.92 points, increased 15.78 points or 0.96% with a trading value of THB 63.13 billion.

In addition, the U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that trade negotiations with China are still planned for September.
