Asia Stocks Tumble after Dow Futures Point to Decline as US COVID-19 Cases and Deaths Continue to Rise.


Stocks in Asia were traded lower in the morning session on Monday, April 13, 2020, following the decline in Dow Jones Futures as investors still weigh the impact from the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S.

 

As of 8:52 local time in Thailand (GMT+7) Nikkei fell 0.26%, SSEC dropped 0.51% and Kospi dipped 0.51%. HSI and ASX 200 were closed on Monday for Easter Monday.

In the meantime, Dow Jones Futures lost 273.5 points or 1.16% to 23,344.50 points. S&P 500 Futures dropped 1.21% while Nasdaq Futures also fell 1.19%.

 

Investors were weighing over the impact from the coronavirus outbreak after the U.S. is the world’s leader in infections and deaths from the virus. As of April 12, the U.S. reported 555,138 cases of coronavirus and 22,020 deaths, which already surpassed Italy. New York alone had nearly 190,000 cases with 9,385 deaths.
