Will Manafort’s and Cohen’s Indictment End Trump’s Reign of Chaos?

On Tuesday, the president’s former campaigning chief Paul Manafort, and Trump’s ex-lawyer Michael Cohen were both convicted, effectively casting both as felons. With the latter making pleas that may implicate the president himself on charges of misuse of funds to influence the election.

US president Donald Trump, to many, may be compared to Lord Voldemort, or Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious, however, the latter comparison may hold to be more accurate. Lord Voldemort doesn’t have an equally sinister successor, or a higher and darker master behind the scenes, Emperor Palpatine does.

Thinking that getting rid of Trump will solve the woes of the world isn’t comical, but tragic. The oversimplified political view that one person is responsible for, not all, but even a national scale chunk of problems is naive, to put it sugarcoated nicely.

To put it more constructively, it is ignorant. And this single evil villain perspective is as detrimental as the single savior hero one. The utmost best one single individual can do is to be the representative of a collective of individuals working towards a common goal, good or bad.

This is where the Hydra analogy comes in handy, you have to kill the multiple headed dragon at its heart. Attack at, and destroy its core. Neera Tanden and Matt Brown, writing for the Washington Post said;

“to challenge the rising tide of ethno-nationalist populism, political leaders must also challenge the status quo.”

The status quo is the body of the ethno-nationalist populistic hydra, and their core is the fear of other ethnicities and nations. Cutting at their heads will just increase the fear in their heart, and perhaps provoke the beast towards even a greater degree of frenzy.

If Trumps does get impeached, let’s take a look of the possible new head of “America First”.

First runner up, vice president, Mr. Mike Pence who during the critical time before the first US – DPRK summit meeting, said that North Korea “may end like Libya”. Naturally, it was seen as an outright threat of violence. Mr. Pence backed the 2003 Iraq invasion, and avidly supports the 2020 Space Force that will become the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Mr. Pence openly expresses that he is a religious man, and a conservative, prioritizing the former. His view of sexual diversity can be discerned through his support of “Conversion Therapy”, a practice designed for turning gay people to become heterosexual with psychological or religious intervention.

Oh, and Mr. Pence’s family pet, Marlon Bondo was the first bunny to have flown on Air Force two, and has a book dedicated to him, “Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President”. The book is written and illustrated by the VP’s daughter and wife.

Pence as POTUS with Bundo as BOTUS will likely be a tragedy, not a comedy.

Next runner up, Paul Ryan, well, supposingly he isn’t too bad, however, Ryan said that humans might not be the cause of the current climate change, and supports tax incentives for fossil fuels, but not for renewable energy. He is for gun rights and not for stricter gun control, and supported the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Huffington Post suggested:

“Policy-wise some might put him just to the left of Attila the Hun, but like President George W Bush swing white male voters will want to have a beer with him”.

The list of hydra heads is a long one if the body still stands with a bitter heart.

America, like so many other countries, need to deal with the increasingly ethno-nationalism, and nationalistic conservatism that is the reaction to the progress towards something new, humanism, okay, not really new just never really achieved.

A Trump impeachment could actually exacerbate the rift in American politics and spread more havoc than an economical contagion. Hate is one of humankind’s oldest and strongest currencies.

Bullying a bully is self defeating, like subduing violence with greater violence. But, turning away from the rule of law to avoid conflict is also dangerous. What we have now seems to be a genuine political quagmire, a real catch 22 situation.

How will this chapter of human trial end? Will it bridge us towards progress or regress us back to more senseless conflicts. Whatever the case investors must closely keep tabs on the situation as it unfolds, and be ready for what is to come. Get assets, and diversify your portfolio folks, because no one really knows what’s coming.
