UK will Hold Election for EU in May as Brexit Gets an Extension until Halloween

The EU extends the Brexit deadline until October 31 under the condition that Britain must hold the European Parliament Election.

It has been almost three years since the United Kingdom (UK) had a referendum which they agreed to leave the European Union (EU) on March 29, 2019.

However, the divorce was delayed due to series of disapprovals from British parliament over the Brexit deal proposed by the British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Yesterday, April 10, 2019, the EU summit in Brussel had agreed to extend the divorce to October 31, 2019. Members of the committee see that a long delay would allow Britain to sort things out, especially in the parliament, as well as saving the time of going back and forth to Brussel every time the Brexit deadline is about to reach and an extension is requested by May.

Nevertheless, the extension did not come without a condition that Britain must hold the European parliament election on May 23 to return British members to a new European Parliament that convenes in July, and that it pledges not to disrupt key EU decision-making before it leaves.

The condition will need an approval from British parliament as well. If the UK fails to get an approval or to hold the election, it will automatically leave without a deal on June 1.
