Italy Locks Down the Entire Country to Control the Escalation of Covid-19 Outbreak

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced on Monday (March 9) that the lockdown will expand to the whole country, to quarantine the worsening virus spreading.

Italy just ordered to shut down the 16 northern regions of the country, including Milan and Venice a days earlier as the infection and death have surged dramatically, and the north was also the epidemic center.

All the public gatherings will be banned and some sport events will suspended as well.

The number of confirmed infections jumped to 9,172 cases, almost 2,000 cases soared in a 24-hour, while the death toll climbed to 463, resulting Italy to be a second largest Covid-19 spreading after China.

The Prime Minister told its citizens should not travel other than for work or emergencies,

“The right decision today is to stay at home,” he said. “Our future and the future of Italy is in our hands. These hands have to be more responsible today than ever before.”

However, the drastic measures will be affected from Tuesday (March 10) to April 3. As well as the universities and school closure that will close until April 3.
