Hong Kong-Singapore “Travel Bubble” Delays after Covid-19 Cases Spike

The Hong Kong-Singapore’s travel bubble has been postponed on Saturday -less than 24 hours before it was due to launch- as Covid-19 cases spike in Hong Kong.

The quarantine-free travel arrangement that was expected to boost tourism for both cities, has to delay at least 2 weeks after Hong Kong reported the highest single-day rise over three months of 43 new cases on Saturday, said Edward Yau, Hong Kong’s secretary for commerce and economic development, at a press conference.

A travel bubble would allow travellers between Hong Kong and Singapore to enter the cities without a quarantine on condition that they complete coronavirus tests before and after arriving at their destinations.

Under the air travel bubble, there would be one flight a day into each city with a quota of 200 travelers per flight, and was subjected to increased to two flights a day later.
