Asian Stocks Trade in Mixed Session as China Evergrande Prepares to Pay Coupon

Major stock markets in Asia traded in a mixed session on Friday after Chinese media reported that China Evergrande Group is preparing to pay the coupon.


Major stock markets in Asia traded in a mixed session on Friday after Chinese media reported that China Evergrande Group is preparing to pay the coupon on a bond due September 23 before the grace period ended on Saturday.

 

As of 9:25 local time in Thailand, Nikkei rose 0.73%, Shanghai Composite slipped 0.08%, Hang Seng Index increased 0.12%, ASX200 fell 0.18% and IDX Composite decreased 0.53%.

Thailand’s SET Index closed on holiday.

Over the night, S&P 500 closed at a record high at 4,549.78 points. Dow Jones slipped 0.02% and Nasdaq rose 0.62%.

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits last week fell to a record low since the pandemic started in 2020. Jobless claims dropped 6,000 to 290,000 last week on a three week straight.
