Covid-19 Cases in France Hit Record High as Omicron Sets to Dominate in Upcoming Days

France has become another country in Europe to see a record high in coronavirus infections amid the spread of the new omicron variant that has taken delta to become a dominant strain in many countries such as the United States of America.

The country records more than 100,000 cases for the first time since the outbreak began in 2020 while hospitalizations have doubled over the past month.

According to the regional health service, more than 1 in 100 people living in the Paris region have tested positive for Covid-19 this past week, while the government experts expect the omicron variant will be a dominant strain in France in the coming days.

 

U.K. recorded more than 120,000 cases on December 24, 2021, which is a record high. Meanwhile, Italy reported a third successive record tally of cases with new daily infections reaching 54,787 on December 25, 2021.

The United States of America which officially announced a dominance of the omicron variant last week averaged more than 204,000 cases a day.
