POST Abruptly Discontinues “Post Today” and “M2F,” though Improving in Deficit

POST has reported an improve on net loss from THB 358.8 million in 2017 to THB 191.1 million in 2018, however, the company decided to cease the printing operation of Post Today Newspaper and M2F Newspaper within March 2019.


Bangkok Post Public Company Limited (POST) has reported its consolidated financial statement yearly 2018 through the Stock Exchange of Thailand as follows:

POST reported a net loss of THB 167.7 million, improved by 53.3% or THB 191.1 million when compared to the THB 358.8 million of loss in the same period last year.

Sales and service income was THB 1,230 million, decreased by 7.4% ot THB 98.5 million when compared to THB 1,328.5 million of last year, mainly due to the decline in print media and advertising revenue. Revenue from television program production was THB 230 million, increased by 27.1% YoY.

The cost of sales and services in 2018 was THB 991.3 million, decreased by 14.3% from THB 1,156.3 million in 2017 due to the cost reduction  of print media and magazines to comply with sales changes.

Selling expenses for the year ended December 31, 2018 was THB 154.0 million, decreased by 23% compared to THB 200.0 million in 2017 due to controlling cost of distributing newspapers and magazines.

However, regarding to the Meeting of the Board of Director on 20 February 2019, the Board of Directors has considered to cease the printing operation of Post Today Newspaper and M2F Newspaper within March 2019 onwards and to focus more on using digital media, websites and online communities. POST will maintain the printing of Bangkok Post Newspaper as it is.
