George Herbert Walker Bush (George H.W. Bush or George Senior), American 41st president and the father of American 43rd president, George W Bush, has passed away at age 94 in Houston at 22:10 local time on Friday. It has been only seven months after his wife, Barbara, died at age 73. “I think Dad got sick on purpose so that he could be with her,” Jeb Bush said during his eulogy to his mother when his father, George HW Bush was admitted to hospital with a blood infection in April but had since been discharged. They both had six children and were married longer than any presidential couple in American history. George H.W. Bush served as the US president from House Republican between 1989 and 1993 after serving two terms as vice-president to Ronald Reagan, the 40th president from 1981 to 1989. During his time serving as the US 41st president it was the period of change in the world; the fall of the Berlin Wall came early in his presidency, the collapse of Soviet Union came in 1991. He ordered military operations in Panama and the Persian Gulf, and, at one point, was recorded as having a record-high approval rating of 89%. In his Inaugural Address, Bush said: “I come before you and assume the Presidency at a moment rich with promise. We live in a peaceful, prosperous time, but we can make it better. For a new breeze is blowing, and a world refreshed by freedom seems reborn; for in man's heart, if not in fact, the day of the dictator is over. The totalitarian era is passing, its old ideas blown away like leaves from an ancient, lifeless tree. A new breeze is blowing, and a nation refreshed by freedom stands ready to push on. There is new ground to be broken, and new action to be taken.” At the time of his death, Bush was the longest-lived American president in history. Without him, the US wouldn’t be the nation as we see today. Besides the title of US president, he also earned a few more during his time; World War II combat pilot, student athlete, Texas oilman, Republican congressman, national party chairman, pioneering diplomat and spy chief.
