The third detained Canadian by the Chinese authority has been Identified as an English teacher, Sarah McIver, with a visa issue.

Not long after the news goes public about the third detention of Canadian citizen in China by the authority, Beijing has revealed that the person that recently got detained was Sarah McIver who was serving “administrative punishment” due to “illegal employment,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying. “What I can tell you is that China and Canada are maintaining clear consular communication.”

Hua asserts that the case is not connected with the previous detainees who were accused of endangering national security, which aligns with the statement Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday “we suspect the case is very different from the first two cases”, referring to the circumstances surrounding Mr. Kovrig and Mr. Spavor‘s detention. Still, he mentioned that he was “very concern” on these cases.

While Canada has not yet confirmed of the identity as claimed by Beijing, Sarah McIver said to be an English teacher that was being “held” because of a visa issue.
