EGCO Commences the COD of 1,285MW HPP in Xayaburi, Recognizing Revenue from 4Q Onward.


The Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO) has reported that XPCL Hydropower Plant (XPCL), managed by Xayaburi Power Co., Ltd. in which the company holds 12.50% stakes, has commenced its Commercial Operation of supply electricity to both Thai and Laotian grids on October 29, 2019.

The XPCL Power Plant, located on the Mekong River in Xayaburi Province of Lao PDR, is a run-of-river hydropower plant with an installed capacity of 1,285 MW electricity output to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under the 29-year power purchase agreement while selling 60 MW electricity output to Electricite du Laos for 29-year term.

The XPCL Power Plant will contribute additional stable revenue sources to EGCO starting from the 4th quarter of 2019 onward and help support the reliability of Thailand and Laos’ national grids.
