Democrat Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States on Saturday, reported AP News.
The election has been running for more than four days as two candidates were neck-and-neck in the race to become the next president of the U.S. The counting came down to only five states left, which are Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Alaska.
AP News was the first news agency to report that Biden crossed the 270 electoral votes after his win in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Not long after, Fox News updated the score for Biden to 290 to Trump’s 214, adding six electoral votes in Nevada for Biden along with 20 in Pennsylvania.
Biden was on track to win the national popular vote by more than 4 million, a margin that could grow further as ballots, especially mail-in ballots, continue to be counted.
Note that the results are unofficial and would require days before the announcement.
