AOT Expects Traffic to Return to Pre-Covid Level in 2023 after over 40% Down in 2020

AOT Expects Air Traffic to Return to Pre-Covid Level in FY2023 after a Decrease over 40% in FY2020.

Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has forecasted that its air traffic will return to pre-covid level in 2023.

In the AOT Board of Directors Meeting No. 12/2020 held on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, AOT reported the adjustment to air traffic forecasts based on the impact assessment of the current COVID-19 outbreak situation during the fiscal years 2021 – 2023. AOT expects the total number of 446,986 flights and 47.91 million passengers for the fiscal year 2021 and the total number of 776,763 flights and 110.88 million passengers for the fiscal year 2022. It is also expected that air traffic volumes in the fiscal year 2023 will return to the same level as those in the fiscal year 2019 before the occurrence of COVID-19 outbreak.

However, such adjusted air traffic forecasts are different from the previous ones only in international passenger and flight numbers which are expected to decrease by 10.5% and 11.9% from previously forecast, respectively, due to some limitations on arriving international passenger screening of quarantine checkpoints, and domestic passenger and flight numbers which are expected to increase by 16.4% and 20.2% from previously forecast, respectively, because of the Relief Measures Phase 5 following the Order of the Centre for the Administration of the Situation due to the Outbreak of the Communicable Disease Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) No. 6/2020, effective from 1 July 2020 onwards.

Yesterday, the share price of AOT closed at ฿67.00/share, fell ฿0.25/share or 0.37% with a trading value of 4,394 million baht.

For the year ended September 30th, 2020, the air traffic volume from six airports under AOT was 515,185 flights, a 42.51% decrease compared to last year. It comprised 244,511 international flights and 270,674 domestic flights. The total number of passengers was 72.64 million, a 48.80% decrease compared to last year. It comprised 37.49 million international passengers and 35.15 million domestic passengers which mainly resulted from the decrease in international flights and passengers.
