SET Plunges Below 1,290pts as the Market Watches ECB Meeting and U.S. Jobless Claims.


SET Index made a sudden downturn in the afternoon session as the European markets opened lower on Thursday ahead of the European Central Bank’s (ECB) latest meeting on monetary policy in the eurozone.

 

SET dropped to 1,289.31 points at 15:00, decreased 4.09 points or 0.32% with a trading value of 25.2 billion baht.

Meanwhile, DAX lost 0.03%, FTSE dipped 0.56%, CAC slumped 0.25% and STOXX600 slipped 0.28%.

 

The market expected that the ECB could fine-tune its policy rates at this meeting and might follow the U.S. in revising the inflation target in the long term. The market is also looking ahead to the U.S.t’s weekly jobless claims report which would be released later today. The new claims were forecasted to drop from 881,000 to 850,000.
