3 Mobile Vendors and Their Point of Views on 5G Technology.


At the “5G The New Beginning, Reinventing Thai Economy” seminar on December 18, 2019, organized by Krungthep Turakij Newspaper, Kaohoon Turakij Newspaper and Thansettakij Newspaper, three telecom equipment vendors namely; Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Company Limited, Cisco Systems Thailand Company Limited and Ericsson (Thailand) Company Limited, had shared interesting point of views on 5G technology in Thailand.

 

Mr. Abel Deng, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies (Thailand), stated that 2020 is very important to Thailand which will be taking the first step into the ear of digital economy. To give the implementation of 5G in Thailand a push, a support from three division is required; 1) The government to create a good and supportive environment for the investment. 2) The industrial sector to adjust to the new technology. 3) The people to acquire the know-how for the new technologies to come. Mr. Deng said Huawei is ready to cooperate in order to promote the 5G technology in Thailand.

“According to the study, every $1 invested in the technology, the GDP will rise $20 and will increase to $25 in the next 20 years,” said Mr. Deng in the seminar. “Meanwhile, Huawei has implemented 5G technology in China by cooperating with China Mobile in mining business, and the result shows that the cost has been reduced by approximately 150 billion yuan per annul. The technology also increases the working performance by three times,” added Mr. Deng.

 

Mr. Vatsun Thirapatarapong, Managing Director of CISCO (Thailand) and Indo-China, stated that 1G-4G are about a service for voice, data and video while the 5G technology a brand new experience that Cisco has been testing with other corporate in various countries. Mr. Vatsun affirmed that 5G technology must be implemented in Thailand.

The most beneficial one would be the organizations because 5G has the advantage in data transfer which will be able to use on fixed-mobile broadband. The bandwidth will increase tremendously.

Mr. Vatsun said that Cisco has been testing 5G on various occasions, for example, the self-driving cars and Google, an implementation in education in Japan with VR to educate children on how to prepare oneself at the time of Tsunami, a robotic arm to pick up products from the shelf, a deep-sea excavator. Cisco also joined European countries to develop Rural First Project for ecosystem such as smart farming.

“The arrival of 5G will push the limit in every aspect, which is why a safety system must be considered at the very beginning of the process, and the technology is essential in the future because 5G can be implemented to the application level,” said Mr. Vatsun.

 

Ms. Nadine Allen, President of Ericsson (Thailand) Company Limited, believes that the usability of 5G will increase tremendously in 2020, especially China and the 5G technology will play a great role in the industrial. According to the research, 50% of smartphone users will switch the service provider within 6 months if their provider does not have 5G.

The coming of 5G will reduce the cost and a better cost management as well as creating a new kind of services. The technology of 5G could also be used in other platforms, serving as an infrastructure of each business.

“The delay of 5G will have an effect to the country, and those countries who already have 5G will be at an advantage,” said Ms. Nadine. “5G is an essential factor to complete the Thailand 4.0 economic model”.
