EGCO Says No Impact from Power Outage in “Samui-Pha Ngan” as “Khanom 2” Operates Normally

Following the news reported from Kaohoon International this evening titled “EGCO Is at Risk of Losing Revenue 1Q21 after a Report of a Broken Undersea Cable in Koh Samui,” stating that the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) of Koh Samui addressed that the power failure in Koh Samui in the early morning of March 8, 2021, was due to an anchoring of HTMS Angthong near the 115Kv submarine power cable used to transmit electricity from Khanom Power Plant, which is operated by Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO), to Koh Samui and Koh Pha-Ngan.

 

Initially, the plant will be unable to generate electricity for 2 weeks due to maintenance. Following the incident, EGCO could be at risk of losing some of its revenue after a report of a broken undersea cable used to transmit electricity from EGCO’s Khanom Power Plant to Koh Samui and Koh Pha-Ngan.

 

Later this evening, EGCO clarified that the power shortage in some areas in Koh Samui and Koh Pha-Ngan occurred from PEA’s submarine power cable, which was not related to EGCO’s Khanom Power Plant. Furthermore, the company stated that Khanom Power Plant Unit 1 is under annual maintenance, while Khanom Power Plant Unit 2 is operating normally.
