Asia Stocks Edge Higher in Response to U.S.-China’s Phone Conversation on Phase One Deal.


Stocks in Asia continued to trade higher on Tuesday after the U.S. had China hold a phone call to discuss the Phase One trade deal.

 

As of 9:20 local time in Thailand (GMT+7), Nikkei rose 1.47%, SSEC increased 0.48%, ASX 200 gained 0.69% and Kospi advanced 1.16%, while HSI slipped 0.08%.

 

Last evening, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and the Chinese state media agency Xinhua both reported that the U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin held a phone conversation with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He to discuss the implementation of the historic Phase One Agreement between the United States and China.

Both sides see progress and are committed to taking the steps necessary to ensure the success of the agreement, reported the U.S. Trade Representative.
